A model for effective online instructional design.

Instructional design (ID), also known as instructional systematic design (ISD). Instructional design refers to the process of planning, creating and delivering effective materials that make knowledge and skill attainment more effective, well-organized, real and interesting to meet a specific learning need. In short, it is procedure of making and transporting resources and knowledge to learners. The aim of instructional design is to match the learning goal and desire outcome. Instructional design helps the students to achieve formerly set learning goal. It is the responsibility of the instructional designer to develop and present instructional materials and experience that successfully aid the learner in achieving the previously established learning objectives. To do this, the instructional design process starts with determining the needs of the learners and how they learn in order to develop the most effective instructional materials to support the learning process. After these materials have been distributed, the effectiveness of the instructional intervention is assessed by gauging observable outcomes, like a change in behavior or increased performance.

Instructional designers may work with physical materials, such as manuals and handbooks or with e-learning technologies and multimedia to create instructional experience. The role of the e- learning instructional designer to fill in the knowledge gaps and ensure the learning objectives are fulfilled. The instructional designers typically have a more in -depth knowledge of e-learning authoring tools to create engaging e-learning experience. There are some steps for designing and developing for effective instructions. They are

            a. Identify

            b. Choose

            c. Create.

            d, Engage

            e. Evaluation.

Identify: identifying a course format is initial process in designing the instruction. To accomplish the learning objectives this entails determine the instructional techniques and approaches that will be used. A variety of teaching techniques, including lectures, group discussion, case studies, simulations and assessments may be used inro the learning process.

Select: another important consecutive step is to develop the instructional materials choosing format for content organization is essential because it influence students’ impressions of online classes as well as their access to and navigation of course content

Create: here in this step, instruction designer creates clear course route, instructional technique and resources for content presentation, assignments and evaluation, interactive communication techniques and students support materials The designer will define the learning objectives, create the storyboard and select the appropriate delivery methods. The content that will be used to deliver the learning experience must be interesting, interactive and simple to use to gain attention of students. Content includes text, picture, music, video and interactive features in teaching materials

Engage: the e- learning content is released and delivered to the learners. When presenting the new information, the impact of the e-learning content makes sure to utilize the learning strategies that provide the most effective and efficient instruction result. For the better engagement of student instructor should include guided learning, simulations, gamification. The degree of engagement of students depends on the nature of discussion question, mitigating factor for the degree of student response, learning community, student characteristic, and instructional facilitation.

Evaluation:  this is the last stage of creating instruction for online learning. Here learner practice their newly acquire skill, behavior or knowledge to active the learning process. Students’ assessment should be holistic and formative for this instructor should provide the activities that allow the learner to internalize the new information and ensure the correct understanding and application of the concept they have learned. Students’ performance can be evaluating by projects, presentation, assignments, test communication post etc. student’s performance in an online class should be evaluated progressively and periodically.
