Measurement Period: 1st |
Specific objectives:
After the lesson students will be able to
·
Explain the needs of measurement.
·
Tell
the examples of physical and non- physical quantities and SI / CGS/FPS and MKS units
of quantities.
·
Describe
the different systems of measurement.
Soft Skills developed after this class

·
Analysis
Teaching learning activities:
Introduction:
Explanation on the different types of quantities way of measuring them and showing different object to the classroom.
Main part/ teaching steps:
I will do following things in class:
1. Warm
up class: 2-3 min.
Compering height of body, palm length
etc. with students.
2.
Discussion / revision on previous class: 5 min
Before I start class I will make link
between last class and today’s class.
3.
Content presentation (or some days it may be learning by doing/
activity learning): 20 minute
Content will be delivered via using
power point slides.
Activities / practices:
·
I will ask question like do you love your
family? How much you love your family? Have you ever feel happiness/ sadness/
anger? If yes how much? How is today’s weather? Is it hot or cold? How much?
By
above mention question I will clarify the concept of measurable and
non-measurable thing and importance of measurements too.
·
Before I start content I will show picture
of different measuring instruments and will ask what they are and how they are
used in practice.
·
Students are said to measure the length of
their different subject book and are said to measure area and volume.
Activities:
A. for the understanding of different system of units.
1. Divide
the class in sub group
2. Ask
to measure the height of A student by B. then convert it into different units
as shown in table below:

30.48 cm
304.8 mm
Students will be divided into four groups with
10 member each. They will be given to 5 minutes to discuss on their topic.
Group
1: To write examples of measurable quantities.
Group
2: To write examples of non-measurable quantities.
Group
3: importance of measurement.
Group
4: To write examples different system of units.
I
will manage the group by helping them.
5.
Group presentation /Presentation by students: 10 min.
1
student for each group (will not repeat) in each day will present the finding
of group discussion.
6.
Feedback by teacher on presentation: 2-3 min.
After
lecture student are allow to discuss on their topic, later after their
presentation I will give short feedback on their presentation.
Conclusions:
From the learning activities, students
understand and apply the different system of units and know their
interconversion, can do simple calculation for real life like finding area,
volume, perimeter etc.
Teaching materials:
Evaluation (how to assess?)
Homework ( Creative )
Students are provided with list of questions before
we start lesson. Each day they will see the question paper / list and solve
what they taught today and solve them. If there is any kind of difficulties
they will ask next in next class. In this method they are not force to show
homework immediately next day . They can do freely and submit after ½ days of
lesson completion.
Project work:
1.
Take a
measuring tape, measure the height of your family members and convert their
height in different units like
|
S.N |

Height in feet |
Height in meter |
Height in cm |
Height in mm |
Height in inch |

Remark: 1 meter= 100cm
1 cm = 10 mm
1 meter = 3.28 foot
1 meter = 39.37 inch.
2.
Visit a
local marked, observe different shops and watch buying and selling of things
and notice thing used for measurement and make a list.
Like. Juice= glass etc.
Banana = dozen
Revision: Next
day we will be revised today’s course by asking question like
a.
Out of anger and
water which one is physical quantity?
b.
Why we say air
is physical quantity?
c.
Meter is which
system’s unit of length?
d.
Why we measure
rice before cooking?
e.
And so on.
